This lunar month is the last lunar cycle before the big acceleration of growth and change that will be the major theme of 2023!
We begin this lunar month within the essence of Solstice. Solstice is the marker of the seasons and is the time when we experience the longest nights (Winter) and the longest days (Summer) each year and each season depending whether you are in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.
With a new moon happening just one day after Solstice, this Capricorn new moon and this lunar month are infused with the energy of new beginnings and may even be offering us a glimpse of what is coming over the next 3 months and for the rest of the season.
At the collective level this lunar month may see the beginnings of some positive changes towards everything to do with our power structures such as government, corporations and all big institutions of power as this new moon is loaded in Capricorn with Venus, Mercury and Pluto all in Capricorn. And with Jupiter now in Aries, there is a sense of something new and maybe even a dose of some much needed inspiration!
With Jupiter freshly in Aries and hopefully bringing a boost to your holiday season, you may even have some fun this year? I don’t know if you remember but last Christmas had such a heaviness to it. Almost everyone I spoke to around that time felt heavy and tired… 2021 was a rough year and the holiday season did not seem to be very festive. But this year the patterns are different and I truly hope everyone can have some fun!
2022 has also been an intense year and this festive season may be a time to let off some steam. However, I will warn you to navigate wisely over New Year as Venus will be conjunct Pluto and Mercury will be retrograde. I recommend having a solid plan for the evening and sticking to it!
The Father (Capricorn) new moon / The Mother (Cancer) full moon axis. Over the years I have noticed that when the new and full moon occurs on this axis that many people focus on healing and addressing family dynamics. It’s no coincidence that this is the holiday season for many people on Earth, making this a time of increased focus and attention (both positive and negative) on our family connections or lack thereof. If you are struggling, then I recommend sitting in ritual at the Cancer Full Moon as a way of creating space to release, reset and heal.
This lunar month has the sense of not getting caught up in the external chaos of the holiday season. There is a call for getting organised, whether that’s internally or externally, as we prepare for an exciting and accelerated year that will be 2023!
ThiMajor Transits for the Lunar Month
(i) JUPITER IN ARIES
All month - Getting ready to charge ahead!
Jupiter moving forwards in Aries may be a boost we all need for the holiday season! Jupiter is beginning a new 12 year cycle! When any planet enters Aries, the themes associated with the planet begins a new cycle as Aries is the first sign on the Zodiac wheel and represents the push of life force to create and initiate!
This movement of Jupiter into Aries can help you to access a sense of agency. We have had so many rules, restrictions and the big power structures have been more involved in our lives in the last few years that this feeling of personal agency may feel like a breath of fresh air for many of us. And with the new moon in Capricorn happening within days of this, this could be a new cycle for us all with regard to these bigger institutions.
After the crazy times we have been living through, this cycle will potentially be a time of reinvigorated hope and faith and a general sense of being able to move continue progressing. Even though Mars and Uranus are still retrograde until late January, we may find this as a time of gearing up for 2023.
(ii) MERCURY RETROGRADE
December 29th to January 19th - Getting organised for 2023.
This is a great time to review your systems, structures and routines. Are your foundations strong? This can be a great time to open up to new ways of organising and preparing a foundation that will support you at the base level to be held and solid as we journey with the big year ahead!
(iii) VENUS CONJUNCT PLUTO IN CAPRICORN
December 30th to 31st - Take it easy over New Years!
This is a powerful conjunction. Venus rules everything to do with what is enjoyable in our lives including love and relationships. Pluto amplifies everything it comes into contact with so be aware over New Years and try not to get caught up in power dynamics that may feel charged in these moment. Remember Mercury is also retrograde and this could add a bit more to confusion in communication. My advice would be to leave whatever you can until Mercury turns direct or at the very least, wait until the first week of January for important conversations.
(iv) VENUS IN AQUARIUS
January 2nd/3rd - The Goddess wants something different
As I have shared in these monthly snapshots, we have been living through a greater astrological cycle that has been focused on breaking down all of the old institutions of power. This breaking dow process includes the institution of marriage and ‘till death do us part’. As Venus moves into Aquarius, this can be a wonderful time to open yourself to new and evolved ways of doing all of your relationships including family. There will be space for this and as we move further into 2023, we will see that there will be positive support for these evolutions in our relationships. We will be moving towards new, more fluid and more progressive ways of loving each other and Venus into Aquarius may really begin to open your mind to ways that you can experience this. It feels really exciting if you are open to change!
(v) MARS DIRECT
January 12th/13th - The foot comes off the brakes!
We have had a longer than usual cycle with Mars in Gemini. Mars rules our life force and our energy so when Mars is retrograde, the energy that we normally engage with to build and create in the outer world is turned inwards. There’s a sense that many of us are stronger internally and ready to move our lives forwards and when Mars turns direct, there may be a sense of the foot coming off the brakes and a sense of actually wanting to create in the world.
On a collective level, Mars direct may activate lots of online battles. Gemini rules over the media and when Mars starts moving forwards in Gemini, there may be some big news!
Major Lunar Themes
(i) NEW MOON IN CAPRICORN
December 23rd everywhere in the world.
This new moon comes just over a day following Solstice. This means that the season is infused with new beginnings in areas associated with Capricorn.
Capricorn is a powerful sign and carries the energy signatures associated with discipline, power, strength, organisation, control and structure. When the moon is new in Capricorn, you can harness this energy and seed in new goals and intentions that require focus, discipline and hard work. Think of goals that require you to go the distance that require staying power and really seed these in at this new moon.
Also, this new moon is at 1 degree of Capricorn giving this new moon an extra boost of new beginnings. This is a great time to initiate new projects and intentions that are foundational and part of building up systems and structures in your life and for generally getting organised.
Next year is big (my 2023 forecast is coming to subscribers inbox soon - subscribe here if you aren’t already!) and this new moon is encouraging you to get grounded, practical and organised at the structural level of your life.
There is also the sense of taking your power back in relationships as Venus, Mercury and Pluto are all in Capricorn at the same time as this conjunction between the Sun and the Moon (new moon). Big energy in Capricorn and this is where so much heavy astrology has been over the last few years!
Any place where you have given away your power to authority figures (Capricorn) or institutions (also Capricorn) over the last few years can now be addressed.
Jupiter is freshly in Aries bringing in a powerful taking charge and inspiring energy inviting you to re-empower your life and get back into a rhythm where you can start feeling as though you have some agency over your life direction again.
As this new moon comes in as the last lunation of 2022, you may also find that you are reflecting on what you have been learning over the last few years and you may start realising that you have actually become stronger in some ways. Acknowledge this, celebrate this we have been through so much and this is a wonderful time to recognise that you have lived through some of the most incredible times on Earth!
(ii) FULL MOON IN CANCER
January 6th/7th depending where you are in the world.
This is the first full moon for 2023 making this a time for getting ready and clearing the decks for the year ahead.
The world is continuing to go through a powerful transformation and this full moon will invite you to reflect on what it is that actually nurtures you.
Our collective values are shifting and what once gave comfort and nourishment is also shifting. At this full moon you have the opportunity to take some time out to tune into what it is that actually sustains you so that you can be supported and nourished as you journey into a year of great change and accelerated evolution.
Another dimension to this Cancer full moon is that it is also a strong time each year to heal and soothe family dynamics. This full moon is happening so close to the holiday season where we tend to spend time connecting with family which can stir up dynamics for good and bad. This full moon can give you a space to work in ritual with what may have been stirred up with family to heal, release and reset your energy.
I love the timing of this this full moon to give you the space to come back to yourself, to tune into what nurtures you and to heal family dynamics that require your attention as you prepare for a massive year that will be 2023.

This lunar month, seed in new intentions at the Capricorn new moon that will serve as a way to feel empowered and lay some more solid foundations to support you into 2023.
