This lunar month kicks off with a very special, once in a life time new moon event!
This is the first full lunar month of 2023 and it already feels like a different year… thank goodness! 2023 is a very different year and if you haven’t read it already, my 2023 Astrology Forecast goes into the major themes and transits for 2023 to give you an insight into how the patterns appear to be playing out for this year. This lunar month begins with - and is all about - the very special new moon in Aquarius. This is the first new moon of 2023 and there are multiple reasons why this full moon is important:
This new moon is the new moon that millions of people around the world will be celebrating Lunar New Year in synch with the natural cycles of the moon!
This new moon is happening in Aquarius which is ruled by Uranus and this year, Uranus will be gaining speed and power and bringing in new themes, ideas, technology, social systems and so much more!
Just 27 hours after this new moon, Uranus the ruler of Aquarius stations direct which means all planets will be starting to move forwards!
This new moon is happening at the 1st degree of Aquarius. The first degree is a powerful place in every sign as it is the beginning point where new cycles and energies are initiated.
This new moon is the closest the moon has been to Earth since 925 years and won’t be this close again for another 345 years!
This new moon is happening at the same degree as the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction that happened in Dec 2020 - if you remember, there were huge ceremonies happening all around the world. What were you thinking about at that time? What were you visioning in?
Pluto will be entering into the degrees of Aquarius where this new moon is occurring in March 23rd of this year ushering in a time of great change!
Mars has just begun moving forwards and gaining power after being retrograde in Gemini for just over 3 months. Also Mars is in positive aspect to this new moon boosting the energy for positive renewal!
Mercury has also just begun moving forwards - more clarity.
Jupiter - the great benefactor - is in positive aspect boosting this new moon!
What does this all mean? So when you weave all of this together and keep in mind the bigger cycles of 2023, this new moon is such an incredible moment to work in intentional ceremony and ritual to vision in your year, to harness the cycles and to keep aligning yourself with the new ways that are coming in.

This new moon is a powerful moment that is connected to many of the greater cycles so even if you do not work intentionally at this time, try to notice what is emerging in your mind, in your dreams, in your conversations… look for the patterns everywhere in your life around this time as it may be giving you hints of where your life journey wants to go.
As I mentioned above, just 27 hours after the new moon, Uranus stations direct! The days and weeks following will see Uranus gaining speed and power and this will potentially be a trigger point for innovative flashes of insight! Glimpses of the future may start appearing. You may find you have clear ideas of how you want to move forwards in your life and who you want to be in the future and anything you tune into will have the support by the cycles to get going!
However, if you are noticing heavy and negative patterns surfacing and speeding up with the cycles, then the full moon coming up this lunar month in Leo is a potent moment to work with releasing and clearing as Mars will be supporting. Mars can act as the sword of wisdom and truth to cut through the nonsense, purify the ego, and support you to release excess fear, desire and thoughts so you can get to what truly matters!
This is an important lunar month. It appears to be a moment where we may start pivoting both collectively and individually. Being mindful is key as we move through the coming days and weeks, especially when all planets are charging forwards by the end of this month. Stay centred, know who you are, practice compassion and wisdom and you will be able to ride the new waves of energy and move with it all in a way that supports great healing and evolution!
Major Themes for the Lunar Month
(i) ALL PLANETS DIRECT FOR 3 MONTHS!!
Jan 22nd/23rd - Hold onto your hats!
The days following the new moon you may notice a a shift in the pace. The astrology suggests there may be a quickening so to speak. More information, more news, more fear, more problems, more solutions and so on… this really is a year to stay centred and stay focused.
All planets will be direct until Mercury turns retrograde in Taurus April 21st. This is your time to really practice staying with your inner truth, knowing who you are and increasing your capacity to be with the quickening change.
On a positive note, all planets direct can be a time where you can really get going on projects - just be mindful to not leap and go too fast!
(ii) VENUS-SATURN CONJUCTION
Jan 22nd - Relationship healing.
Venus and Saturn coming together is a wonderful configuration for commitment in relationships. This is a moment where we can get real about what matters and to be honest with how we want to show up in all relationships. This may also be a wonderful moment to get real about how we want our relationships to look and feel and to maybe even take some solid steps in this direction.
(iii) VENUS MOVES INTO PISCES
Jan 26th/27th - More much needed healing!
Many or our relationships have been impacted in various ways by the pandemic and the intensity of the last few years. Last year, Venus began a new greater cycle in Libra which can be considered as a greater cycle moving towards new ways of relating to each other. If you are interested in this aspect of Venus’ journey then I recommend checking out this article by Arielle Guttman who has done some incredible work on Venus, her star points and her greater cycles.
But if you’re relationships have been struggling over recent times, you are not alone and I want you to know that the patterns are shifting and there are new energies pouring in that can really support you towards healing. We have honestly all been under pressure so it’s not surprising if relationships have been hard as we have all beeb going through it one way or another!
(iv) MERCURY JUMPS INTO AQUARIUS
Feb 11th - a special few days!!!!
On February 11th and the days surrounding, Mercury moves into Aquarius where the new moon happened earlier in the month. Even though a couple of days earlier, Mercury passed over Pluto, once Mercury jumps into Aquarius, the energy shifts and we may get some insights into what we were visioning at the new moon! This may be a time of revelations, ahah moments and even some support coming in to help us achieve our goals! Mark this one in your diary.
(v) SUN-SATURN & VENUS-NEPTUNE CONJUNCTIONS
Feb 15th - even more serious healing!
This configuration follows after the Venus-Saturn conjunction earlier in the month which may be a time where more healing can happen. We are being invited to release our pain coming from the past and to do this well, to clear out, to wipe the slate clean it appears as though all of our old stories are rising. We have not been allowed to bypass or skip steps as it appears to be important that we take care of the thoughts and stories we have been telling our selves individually and collectively that have been harming our species and planet.
This may be a moment of great reality checks but also great understanding at a more spiritual level of what we have been working on, healing and releasing as we prepare to enter into new paradigms.
Major Lunar Themes
(i) NEW MOON IN AQUARIUS
January 21st/22nd depending where you are in the world.
Honestly, even if you aren’t into new moon rituals but you’re reading this, I strongly recommend you sit around the time of this new moon and at least just think about what it is you are wanting to be and create in 2023.
Take a moment out of your life. Turn off your computer, put your phone down and listen to your inner wisdom. This really is a once in a life time new moon for all the reasons shared earlier… work with it… embrace it and see what comes through.
What is your biggest dream? Let it be there and then work your way back. Don’t be scared of your biggest vision as I’ve noticed after years of sitting with people that our biggest vision isn’t as scary as we think and is most often something that is already a part of us but just has not been expressed or moved towards for so many reasons… endless reasons if we are scared!
I’ve noticed that most people have very realistic visions for their lives but they seem too big because of fear or from a lack of actually sitting and looking at what it is and taking steps towards the vision. This new moon is an invitation to sit and be honest about what your vision is… don’t be scared… awaken the courage to trust yourself to look at what this could be. Often, you are already on track with it in ways your fear won’t let you see.
This new moon is in Aquarius and Aquarius is symbolic of each of our unique ways of expressing life. Aquarius celebrates the individual with the understanding that when each individual is bringing through what is unique and amazing about them, the collective is powerful and there is so much more that can be created and achieved.
Sit and feel into what it is that makes you unique. The world is changing, new patterns are emerging, we can’t continue the way we have been any longer. Embrace this at this time, open yourself and dare to be who you really are! This is where your true value lies and this is where your purpose can be expressed!
2023 is the year to allow your biggest goals and visions to be in your conscious mind and then, in the new paradigms emerging, begin moving towards these visions and goals by taking steps towards.
If you never allow this to be real in your mind, it can never be real in the world as it just can not manifest!
(ii) FULL MOON IN LEO
February 5th/6th depending where you are in the world.
This full moon does not look good for anyone in ego, entitlement or leadership with an agenda as Uranus will be in a tough angle to this full moon.
Things must change. Uranus will be gaining momentum and moving forwards with power and this movement will be ensuring that the sense of change is felt strongly at this full moon.
However, if you have already been evolving with the changes and embracing the new ways of being on Earth, then this moment won’t be negative for you and can actually be a time where you embrace even more, new ways of being.
Uranus has been revolutionsing everything associated with Taurus such as our values, our relationship to quality over quantity, our relationship to the Earth and resources. We are in the middle of a huge collective wake up call and if you’ve already heard the call and are making the necessary adjustments both internally and externally then this full moon will give you a boost and really support you to continue with this evolutionary leap!
There will be multiple invitations throughout 2023 for you to step into a new world and this full moon is one of those strong moments where you are encouraged to decide that you want to be a part of the change, the evolution and the future! Let go of excess and greed at this full moon. Align with evolution.
The Sun, the ruler of this lunation, is receiving positive energy from Mars. Mars is starting to move now and this is such a powerful boost to this full moon. Mars can really help you get clear on what you are releasing and letting go of as he can act as a sword of wisdom and truth as he represents your inner warrior and your ability to say NO at the right time!
Watch this full moon as a moment to work in intentional ritual or ceremony to cut through the nonsense, get clear on who you want to be and to clear the way of your strongest path forwards!
This is also a powerful full moon to release fear! As the saying goes - the only thing to fear is fear itself. Many of us think we are afraid of the stories rumbling around in our minds but when you actually sit and analyse thoughts and fears, most often, you find you are living in a general state of fear.
Fear can be healthy and is designed to keep us alive but when it is left unchecked it can become an existential and overwhelming sense of dread that can disturb us. Work with this full moon to release any fear that is not necessary and not supporting you to live!
In Summary:
It is not a mistake that you were born at this time… awaken your courage, awaken your heart, awaken your wisdom and embrace this incredible time we are living through!
